Why am I not writing?!?

This is the first blog I'm writing on my new netbook. The novelty hasn't yet gone out having finally received it, and now that I've more or less gotten used to the smaller keys and touchpad (after months using a mouse) I have trouble tearing myself away. But that's normal, and it's not a problem for me.

No, the problem is that I originally opted for a netbook as opposed to a proper laptop or even a PC, because I wanted to be able to write wherever I want, and have Internet access for research. Being able to play World of Warcraft or Sims 2 (I hate Sims 3) is a bonus, although I haven't installed either yet. But the aim was to be able to write, to keep all my word files in the same place, to have access to them all at once and not have to file through all the crap on my desk to find my outline / character dev / worldbuilding papers. See, I really am crap at writing by hand (although I do enjoy it occasionally); if I want to be organized, I do need a computer. Anyway, it saves paper.

So when my old laptop finally became senile, and took ten minutes to open a word document (and five to open a copy-paste box, never mind to actually do the copy-pasting), I decided that writing had become to frustrating on that old thing, and started debating what netbook I should buy.

That was back in September. It's now January, and the only writing I've done in four months has been homework, and in my diary, which I started keeping again because I was getting writing withdrawal symptoms (twitchy fingers, excessive but unsatisfying guitar-playing, escapism through literature, talkativeness, aggressive and whiny tendancies towards Nans). I did try to continue on paper, but it didn't work very well. It always seems crapper hand-written.

I thought that the moment I got this thing, I'd plunge head-first back into my stories (Eliane in particular). But after four months, I bearly remember what the story is about, or where I want it to go. I wrote down a lot of annexe files (worldbuilding etc.) and the idea of having to read them all is daunting. I tried reading just the start of the story, but I didn't exactly leave off at an easy bit.

In short, this isn't as easy as I thought it would be. I guess one of the reasons is that I'm still so fascinated by the capacities of my new toy. I can plug it in to charge the battery without it bugging! I can do two things at once without it bugging! It doesn't "wake up" in the middle of the night to do weird rituals with numbers on a black screen and drain the battery! I want to test everything. So I'm testing the blog. It works fine. Once I've done that, I really will have no excuse not to be writing any more.
