I don't get it.

So I've had a bad day, but that's not what I wanna talk about. I wanna talk about writing, because that's what I've been doing a lot of lately, and it's been fun. Only I didn't yesterday because I didn't have much time, and when I finally did have time, I was so tired I just fell asleep. And I haven't today because I started the day by doing something administrative, which ruined the rest of it for me. Not that it went badly or anything, just because I hate administration.

I did try to write a bit today. But I couldn't, for a very stupid reason. See, the story I'm working on is based on a small group of artificial floating islands in the middle of the Atlantic, right on top of the mid-Atlantic ridge (which, in case you're wondering, is a sub-marine volcano hot spot). The story is good, it's a bit futuristic, and despite the astounding fact that there is no sign of magic, or fantasy, or anything like that in the world I've made, it's fun to write.

So why can't I write it now? You'd think it'd be because there's no fantasy in it, wouldn't you? I do love fantasy. A lot. But that would be too obvious, wouldn't it? So why am I suddenly blocked?

I can't figure out how to name my islands.

I told you it was stupid.

I could, of course, continue writing regardless, and when I finally figure out what to call them I could do a ctrl+f and replace all the names in about ten clicks. But I can't. The names I've got for them now are crap. To give you an idea, I named the middle island "Atlantis". Please. A little originality, for godssakkes! And whenever I come across them in the text, they bug me. I need to change them before I do anything else.

So I asked Bob, my boyfriend, what I should call them, and he had the idea of calling one of them "Araboth", which not only rocks, but it's also the name of the seventh heaven according to the bible. I don't know how they came up with such a name for heaven, to me it evokes huge, black castles and barbarian armies and thunder and lightning. His other suggestion was "Asgard", but I think that's a bit too well-known.

Unfortunately, the other six heavens' names aren't nearly as cool as Araboth, so I'll have to find something else for the other four islands, as well as an overall name for the achipelago. Which has led to a lot of searching in latin, greek and hebrew dictionaries for the translations of words such as "wisdom", "power", "rich", "poor", "heaven", "hell" etc. to see if they can inspire me.
