...but the truth is, I was too uninspired even to write this blog. I hadn't written anything in ages. When I started typing or writing, it was rubbish. When I tried to draw it was rubbish. My guitar-playing has always been pretty rubbish, but it was more noticeable these days.
So I tried automatic writing. You know, that exercize where you write whatever comes into your head to see if you're a psychopath or not. It turns out I'm not - or I didn't get into it for long enough, but the results were pretty productive nonetheless, because I decided to write childrens' books.
I've written childrens' stories in the past. Most of the ones I've completed have been in French. And I've been writing and illustrating one with the two children I mind. It's about a fairy and a leprechaun and a dragon and an evil hunter called Gustave. I write and illustrate it, and they colour in the drawings. I tried to get them interested in the writing process, but Claire is a maths fan and Kevin is too young.
Anyway, I thought that if I wrote it out properly and sent it to Claire (Nans' sister, who really is called Claire), maybe she'd like to illustrate it for me. And maybe we could get it published. Wouldn't that be great?
Not that I'll be giving up on teen-adult writing entirely - I'll just be doing it for me. No pressure. My only goal will be to finish my stories, no matter how crap they are - to keep my skills from drying up. You can't do too much psychology in childrens' stories, or they'll get bored.
My other preoccupation has been what is known in French as "tambouillage". This is the art of disappearing into the kitchen with a load of ingredients such as shea butter and several essential oils, emulsifiers and floral waters, and coming out with home made cosmetics. It's very addictive, and I won't be going into it much longer because I have to go and get some essential oils I'm missing now.
